Chavez's swearing-in can be postponed: Venezuelan vice presidentVenezuelan President Hugo Chavez's scheduled swearing-in forhis new term on Jan. 10 will be put off if his health conditiondoes not allow it, Vice President Nicolas Maduro said Friday.
Chavez can take the oath of office at a later date and "theformality of his swearing-in can be resolved in the SupremeCourt," Maduro said in an interview with state TV.
He argued that the constitution gives the flexibility for rearranging the swearing-in ceremony.
A Venezuelan official said on Thursday that Chavez, who had a fourth round of cancer surgery inCuba on Dec. 11, was still suffering from a "severe" lung infection that had caused breathingdifficulties.
Since June 2011, Chavez has been fighting an undisclosed type of pelvic cancer, which hassparked shifting rumors.
According to the Venezuelan Constitution, an early presidential election will be called within 30 daysshould Chavez be unable to return to power.

委内瑞拉新闻和通信部长埃内斯托·比列加斯３日晚间发表电视讲话，证实在古巴接受治疗的总统查韦斯目前肺部严重感染，导致呼吸困难，正在接受治疗。随着查韦斯病情的加重以及就职仪式的临近，国际舆论的热点再次回到查韦斯是否能够继续执政的问题上来。
查韦斯自２０１１年６月以来因患盆腔肿瘤多次赴古巴治疗。他在２０１２年１０月的总统大选中成功连任，但因体内又发现癌细胞，１２月１１日再度在哈瓦那接受手术。此后，马杜罗证实查韦斯在术后患上呼吸道感染及其他并发症，健康状况堪忧。
