Shinzo Abe, Japan’s prime minister, has sent a special envoy toSouth Korea in an effort to improve bilateral ties that hadbecome strained over disputed islands in the Sea of Japan.日本首相安倍晋三(Shinzo Abe)派遣特使出访韩国,旨在改善两国之前因日本海争议岛屿而变得紧张的双边关系。
Fukushiro Nukaga, a lawmaker in the ruling Liberal Democraticparty and secretary-general of the Japan-South Korea lawmakers’ league, met Park Geun Hye, incoming South Korean president, in Seoul on Friday and handed her a letter from the Japanesepremier.
日本执政党自民党(LDP)议员、日韩议员联盟总干事额贺福志郎(Fukushiro Nukaga)周五在首尔与韩国候任总统朴槿惠(Park Geun Hye)会面,转交了日本首相的一封信。
Mr Abe told Mr Nukaga, a former finance minister, to convey the message that “South Korea isJapan’s most important neighbour, with which we share values such as democracy and marketcapitalism”, according to Japanese media.
据日本媒体报道,安倍指示额贺福志郎向朴槿惠转达一条消息,即“韩国是日本最为重要的邻邦,与日本有着相同的价值观,比如民主和市场资本主义”。
“Since both countries have new governments, I would like us to make a good start to ourrelationship”, Mr Abe said.
安倍表示:“两国都有了新的政府,希望我们能让彼此之间的关系有个好的开始。”
Relations between two of Asia’s largest economies became strained last summer after Lee Myung-bak, South Korean president, visited the disputed islands, an incident that led Japan’s thenDemocratic government to recall its ambassador to Seoul.
韩国总统李明博(Lee Myung-bak)去年夏天访问韩日争议岛屿,导致日本当时的民主党政府召回驻韩大使。亚洲两个主要经济体之间的关系随后变得紧张。
Japan, South Korea and North Korea claim sovereignty over the islands, which are controlled bySouth Korea.

Mr Lee’s visit also put strains on the two countries’ increasing military co-operation and financialties.

In June last year, South Korea put off signing an agreement to share sensitive military informationwith Japan.
