China pledges morec ontribution to world peaceForeign Minister Yang Jiechi on Monday addressed an event forforeign diplomats and representatives of international agenciesand said that China will work with other nations toward worldpeace and development.
"China will, together with all other countries, share opportunities, tackle challenges, and make new and greater contribution to the lofty cause of peace anddevelopment for mankind," Yang said at a New Year Reception hosted by the Foreign Ministry.
Briefing the guests on the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, Yang saidChina will continue to hold high the banner of peace, development, cooperation and mutualbenefit; promote equality, mutual trust, inclusiveness, mutual learning and mutually beneficialcooperation in international relations; firmly pursue an independent foreign policy of peace; unwaveringly follow the path of peaceful development and grow friendship and cooperation in allfields with other countries on the basis of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence.
According to the foreign minister, 2012 has seen fresh and important progress in China'sdiplomatic work, as evidenced by the country's growing international standing and influence.
"We have advanced our ties with other countries and deepened good-neighborly friendship andcooperation with our neighbors," Yang said.
He told the audience, "We have played the responsible and constructive role of a big country indealing with international and regional hot spot issues, worked actively to push for peacefulsettlement of disputes and issues, and stood for non-intervention in others' internal affairs andother basic norms governing international relations.
"We have carried out extensive public diplomacy activities as well as cultural and people-to-peopleexchanges to encourage deeper understanding and friendship between the Chinese people andpeople of other countries."
Yang said China's diplomacy will maintain continuity and consistency, and the country will adaptitself to new developments and requirements, both domestically and internationally.
"We will seek to create a more favorable international environment for our efforts to complete thebuilding of a moderately prosperous society in all respects and achieve socialist modernization," hesaid. "In the coming year, we look forward to maintaining good cooperation with all of you andstepping up mutual support and coordination with all related agencies."
In his address, Nolana Ta-Ama, dean of the Diplomatic Corps and Togo's ambassador to China, hailed China's great achievements in 2012.
"In today's world, the positive developments would not have been possible without China'sdecisive contribution," he said, particularly stressing China's role in tackling the international financialcrisis and addressing environment and climate change issues.
"I cannot help but mention the courage of China as a permanent member of the UN SecurityCouncil in urging countries in conflicts to respect the concerns of all parties, show flexibility andpracticality and resolve crises through dialogue and other diplomatic means," he added.
More than 400 people, including Chinese State Councilor Dai Bingguo, attended Monday'sreception in Beijing.

杨洁篪说，２０１２年，中国外交取得新的积极进展，中国国际地位和影响进一步提高。我国领导人出席一系列重大双、多边活动，有力促进了中外友好合作关系。我们推动与各国关系进一步发展，同周边国家睦邻友好合作不断深化。我们在处理国际和地区热点问题上进一步发挥负责任、建设性的大国作用，积极推动和平解决有关争端和问题，维护国际关系基本准则。我们积极开展公共外交和人文交流，推动中国人民与世界人民加深了解和友谊。
杨洁篪表示，２０１３年，中国外交将在保持稳定性、连续性的基础上，积极适应国际国内形势的新变化新要求，与时俱进，开拓创新，为全面建成小康社会和社会主义现代化建设营造更为有利的国际环境。我们将同各国一道，为促进人类和平与发展的崇高事业作出新的更大贡献。
驻华使团长、多哥大使塔·阿马代表外交使团向中国政府和人民致以新年祝福。他说，在即将过去的一年，在中国共产党领导下，中国取得了举世瞩目的新成就。中国在应对全球重大问题及地区热点问题上发挥着至关重要的作用，为促进世界和平、稳定与发展作出了积极、建设性的贡献。国际社会祝贺中共十八大成功举行，祝愿中国及中国外交取得新的更大成就。驻华使团愿大力推动各国同中国友好合作。
