Apple will begin selling unlocked versions of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus in
the United States onTuesday, CNBC has learned.
The phones, which are not linked to any one carrier, will be sold at prices
from $649 to $949depending on screen size and storage space.
Apple will sell the unlocked phones both at stores and online.
The company has made similar moves in past with earlier iPhone models.
Unlocked phones appealto consumers who do not want to be tied to any one
particular cellular provider.
They are also attractive to resellers who buy them in the States for sale
to those overseas. As ofMonday evening, unlocked models of the 6 Plus were
selling for more than $1,200 on eBay.
