颐和园(the Summer Palace)始建时便是一个御花园(imperial garden)。在清朝后期(the late Qing Dynasty)，颐和园遭到了严重破坏。而后清朝的统治者挪用建设军队的经费重建了颐和园。目前，颐和园是世界上建筑规模最大、保存最完整的皇家园林之一，吸收了中国各地建筑的特色。近年来，中国政府几次对园内建筑进行修缮。现在，这个古老御花园的面貌焕然一新，成为公众最喜欢的公园之一。

The Summer Palace was constructed as an imperialgarden, which was seriously destroyed in the lateQing Dynasty. Later, the Qing rulers reconstructedthe garden with the money intended for building upthe army. Now the Summer Palace, one of the largestand the best-preserved royal gardens in the world,has absorbed the architectural features from all parts of China In recent years, the Chinesegovernment has repaired and reconstructed the buildings in the garden several times. This oldimperial garden now has taken on a completely new look, making it one of the most favoriteparks.
1.第1句中的“始建时便是”,其实际意义是“是以一个……身份被建起来的”，故翻译时，要采用被动语态，用介词as引出“御花园”的身份。
2.翻译第3句中的“清朝的统治者挪用建设军队的经费重建了颐和园”时，先译出主要结构(the Qing rulers reconstructed the garden)，“挪用……经费”用介词短语with the money作伴随状语，定语“建设军队的” 可用which引导的定语从句来表达，译作which was used to build up the army，但不如用分词短语 intended for building...来得筒单。
