高考英语高分必备：descend的用法
◆电梯慢慢下降。误：The elevator descended down slowly.
正：The elevator descended slowly.
析：因 descend(下降，使下降)已含有 down 的意思，所以通常不再与 down 连用，以免语义重复。
◆他已沦落到行骗的地步。
误：He descended to cheat.
误：He was descended to cheating.
正：He descended to cheating.
析：descend to (doing) sth意为“沦落为...”、“堕落为...” 等，其中的 to 是介词，不是不定式符号。另外，此用法中的
descend 是不及物动词，因此不用被动语态。
◆我听见了下了楼梯。
误：I heard him descenting the stairs.
正：I heard him descending the stairs.
析：descend(下降)是动词，descent(下降)是名词，两者只差一个字母，注意不要弄混了。
