Some suncreams have expiry dates, while others carry a symbol showing how
many months it can be used for once opened, explains Colin Dougall from
LloydsPharmacy in Glasgow.

If the product has neither, NHS Choices suggests a shelf life of two to
three years if it’s stored correctly, ie, in a cool, dry place.

After the expiry date - or if it’s been stored in a hot car for the summer
– your suncream may degrade and not protect you as well from the sun so it’s
probably best to discard it and buy a new one next season.

But if you’re applying suncream regularly – it should be reapplied several
times a day and after swimming, even if it is waterproof – you’re unlikely to
have much left after your holidays anyway.
