尽管从表面上来看儿童却是在学习语言方面有天赋，但是学习母语是一回事儿，而学习外语是完全另外一回事。

外语不是单词、句型那么简单(Learning Englishinvolves much more than merely memorizing vocabulary and grammar rules)。语言是表达思想的，某种程度上学习外语，超出了儿童的能力范围——尤其是对刚刚上学，甚至不知道学习为何物的儿童。极端的例子是河北省有一对夫妇(都是大学教师)，孩子才6岁，父亲教他英文，母亲教他日文，结果孩子出现了失语症(失语者aphasic;失语症aphasia)。

（1）儿童语言能力强，能够迅速的学好外语。

Topic 76 Should children learn a foreign language?
Nowadays,some may hold the opinion that children should begin learning a foreignlanguage as soon as they start school, but others have a negative attitude thatlearning a foreign language early will pose too much pressure on kids and willaffect their mother-tongue learning. As far as I am concerned, I agree thatbilingual education should start as early as possible. My arguments for thispoint are listed as follows.
I agreewith the statement without reservation since children learn second languagesquickly than adults. As we have observed, children can learn languages fasterthan adults; immigrant children translate for their parents. Child learnersspeak without a foreign accent, whereas this is impossible for adult learners.Therefore the earlier kids learn a second language, the less difficulties they wouldmeet when they grow up and have to face a foreign language-speakingenvironment.
Anotherreason why I agree with the above statement is that I believe that bilingualeducation can be fun and stimulate children's learning interest. Many parentsand teachers know how to teach kids a second language in an interesting way.One of my students told me that, when he was in kindergarten, every day his mumtaught him a few native language characters as well as their meaning in English.As time passed, the kid became keen to learn English. Sometimes he gave his mumand dad a quiz by speaking some English words and asking them what the meaningsare.
Bilingualeducation will not affect the mother-tongue study of children. As we are livingin an environment of pure native language conversations and traditionalculture, it is impossible for us to give up our culture and language. Teachersalso are trying to arrange the curriculum in a appropriate way. For instance,they create an English-speaking environment for children in the morning, and anative language-speaking environment in the afternoon.
Bilingualeducation has become a trend. No matter we like it or not, future educationalundertakings will become more international, and exchanges between schoolsthroughout the world will increase. Given this, speaking a common language isimportant and, to this purpose, bilingual teaching is an inevitable way.
