This week on the World Service we've been celebrating 100 women. In this programme we only have time for four, but each one has a remarkable story to tell. I'm Matthew Bannister, and this is Outlook Weekend.
Life is really hard where I live now. There are lots of restrictions and IS are imposing a lot of things on us.
We're starting with a woman living under the control of the extremist group who call themselves Islamic State. This young woman who asked to be referred to only as the daughter of eastern Syria lives in the Province of Deir ez-Zor.
They lack common sense and they see women only as obedience. We are there just to follow orders. We have been treated like dummies.
What type of work a woman can do in your area?
Very restricted. Our movements are under scrutiny. We have to dress strictly according to the Sharia. We are forced to cover our eyes. We are not allowed to carry cell phones. Even the way we walk is being watched. Women might be forced to marry. It is the most common practice, especially amongst girls aged between 12 and 20. Girls get asked to marry IS fighters, who might be Syrian or foreign fighters.
