老友记（二）："老娘不是好惹的！"
本期木兰继续和大家分享老友记中的几个场景，以对话为主，一起来体会美式口语的生动和幽默。
Scene 1 吵闹的邻居
要点：Be my guest. 随便（吃，用）；（讽刺）悉听尊便
throw a party 举行宴会，开派对
screw up 弄乱，弄糟
Monica公寓楼上新搬来的邻居总是很吵，Phoebe打抱不平，要去找他理论。
Phoebe:Why don’t you go up there to ask him to just like “Step slightly, please.”?菲比：为什么你不直接上楼请他“轻点走路”？
Monica:I have, like five times. But the guy is so charming. I go up there to yell, and then I end up apologizing to him.莫妮卡：我差不多试了五次了，但那家伙很懂沟通技巧。我上去朝他大呼小叫，但最后还给他赔不是。
Phoebe: That is silly. I’ll go up to tell him to keep it down.菲比：你太傻了！我现在就上楼告诉他小点声。
Monica：All right. Be my guest.莫妮卡：好呀，随你便。
Notes: Be my guest.的第一个含义类似于“make yourself at home”,表示“随意，别客气，请便”，例如，当有很久未见的朋友来访时，你可以说：
Long time no see. Come in and make yourself at home.好久没见。快进来，别拘束。
I know you like the desserts. Be my guest.我知道你喜欢吃甜点，别客气。
它的第二个含义略带讽刺意味，表示“随你便。”以上莫妮卡的话语就是这个意思：“瞧你现在义愤填膺的样子，看你上去能怎样？你想试就试呗。”当然，结果不出莫妮卡所料，菲比也以失败告终。
就在Phoebe上楼理论的时候，大家在讨论明天的派对。刚失恋的Chandler还以为是朋友为了让自己开心而举办的，实则是Joey的生日趴。Chandler又开始用冷笑话来缓解尴尬了。
Ross:Chandler, there’s a party tomorrow. You’ll feel better then.罗斯：钱德勒，明天我们开派对，那时你就会开心的。
Chandler: I’m gonna be okay. You don’t have to throw a party for me.钱德勒：我没事。你们不用专门为我开个派对。
Monica: It’s Joey’s birthday.莫妮卡：是乔伊的生日趴。
（楼上传来菲比和那位吵闹邻居模糊的对话，钱德勒打开了冷笑话的匣子。）
Chandler：Well，he totally screwed up the punch line.You know ,it’s supposed to be…钱德勒：他把这句妙语搞砸了。你知道的，应该是（开始发出一连串无意义但有高低起伏的声音。）
Notes：throw a party 举行宴会，开派对，例：
Tomorrow is their anniversary. Let’s throw a surprise party.明天是他们的纪念日，我们办个惊喜派对吧！
screw up 拧紧；弄乱，弄糟；鼓起（勇气）；扭曲（脸）；例：
She screwed up the jar.她把瓶盖儿拧紧。
Don’t screw up your job.别把工作弄砸了。
I finally screwed up enough courage to learn to drive the car.我终于鼓起勇气去学习驾车。
He drank the medicine and screwed up his face.他把药喝掉后做了个鬼脸。
Scene 2 Rachel的新工作
要点：stick out 坚持
pay my dues 付出代价
Rachel如愿以偿地结束了咖啡馆服务生的工作，而新工作似乎并没有让她很开心。
Oh, God. I hate my job. I hate it. I want to quit, but then I think I should stick it out. Then I think：why would a such person stay in such a demeaning job? Just because it’s remotely related to the field they are interested in? I don’t mind paying my dues. But how much will I learn about fashion by walking Myra, the arthritic seamstress to the bathroom?哦，天啊，我讨厌我的工作，我恨它！我想辞职，但我又觉得应该挺下去。然后我又想：为什么会有人愿意做这种有损尊严的工作？难道仅仅是因为它和自己感兴趣的领域沾了一点点边吗？我不在乎吃苦，但扶一个得了关节炎的女裁缝上洗手间怎么才能帮我了解时尚圈？
Notes: stick out 伸出，醒目，显眼，坚持下去，例：
Please stick out your tongue.请把你的舌头伸出来。
She stuck out in that fancy dress.她穿着那条精美的裙子非常引人注目。
You have to stick it out to achieve your goal.为了实现你的目标，你必须坚持。
pay my dues愿意指“支付费用”，引申为“付出代价，吃苦”，例：
I’ve got to pay my dues to lose some weight.减肥是要付出代价的。
Rachel这段关于工作的描述堪称经典，在追寻梦想的道路上我们必须sick out,但绝不能盲目。
Scene 3 Joey的祖母家
要点：tick somebody off 让某人生气，恼火
Chandler做错事去Joey家道歉，Joey提醒Chandler别惹怒自己的祖母，她的脾气厉害得很。
You gotta be cool. Because grandma doesn’t know about you two yet and you do not want to tick her off.你得像没事发生一样。我祖母还不知道你俩的事，而你绝对不要去激怒她。
Notes：tick off 给……做记号，勾出，列举，例：
She ticked off some items on the shopping list.她在购物单上标记了些东西。
Harry ticked off the names of the guests.哈利报出了客人们的名字。
tick somebody off （美式口语）惹怒，让人生气；（英国俚语）责备，训斥，例：
He ticked Sarah off by telling her this news.他告诉萨拉这条消息，让她非常生气。
Nancy ticked me off for being late.南希责备我的迟到。
