老友记（五）：“我已经完全准备好吹捧你了！”
《老友记》最后一期，本期以列重点句为主。第一个是关于Ross和Chandler的，两个人整集都在争一则笑话的版权，其他朋友们已经烦透了。比如Joey:
1. crack up 开始大笑起来
You guys with this joke, well, I gotta say, I know I cracked up but I’m not even sure I got it.你们和这个笑话还没完呢？好吧，说实话，虽然我笑得很开心，但我好像没看懂。
Notes: crack up （因压力造成身体或精神）垮掉，奔溃；开始大笑起来，例：
If he carry on working like this, he will crack up sooner or later.他如果再这样工作下去，身体迟早会垮。
She told us a story and everyone just cracked up.她跟我们说了个故事，所有人都捧腹大笑。
2. go a long way 对……很有帮助
Joey因为没戏可拍已经穷的叮当响，不得不去朋友们经常去的咖啡馆打工，Rachel作为过来人，在向Joey传播经验。
Let me tell you some things I learned working here. First of all, the customer is always right. A smile goes a long way.我要跟你分享我在这的工作经验。第一点，顾客永远是对的。保持微笑对你大有裨益。
Notes: go a long way 字面理解是走了很大一段路，也可表示对……很有帮助，例：
You need to go a long way if you stick to your dreams.要实现你的梦想，你还有很长一段路要走。
To keep a good relationship, respect and mutual understanding go a long way.尊重和相互理解对维持健康的恋爱关系大有帮助。
3. live off 靠……生活
Rachel的妹妹离家出走，赌气说要像Rachel一样独立生活。Rachel不得不向娇生惯养的妹妹解释什么叫独立生活？
This is what you are gonna do. You’re gonna get a job. You’re gonna get an apartment. And you will live off the money that you earn.这些是你要做的：去找个工作，租间公寓，你只能靠自己挣的钱生活。
Notes: live off 以……为食，靠……生活，近义的短语有live on/upon.例：
Birds live mainly off insects.鸟主要靠食昆虫为生。
This family lives off their farm.这一家靠他们的农场过活。
4. take credit for 因为……得到好评
为度过浪漫的情人节，Monica向Chandler提议他们俩亲手为对方做礼物。Chandler对于手工一窍不通，只能求助于朋友。
Have you made anything that maybe I can take credit for?你们有什么做好的东西可以让我拿去讨欢心吗？
Notes: take credit for 因为……得到好评，例：
The project’s success was a team effort. He can’t take all credit for it.项目的成功是团队努力的结果，不能全算他一个人的功劳。
5. pop into 急急走进
talk somebody up （美式）为……说好话，吹捧
Ross和自己学院的学生谈恋爱，即将见女方家长的他非常紧张，拜托朋友们帮忙捧场，多说好话。
Ok, why don’t we all take a seat? And I’ll get us all some coffee. You guys can talk whatever you want, you know whatever pops into your head.好啦，我们为什么不坐下来聊呢？我去帮你们取咖啡，你们随便聊，任何想到的话题都可以。
然而，计划赶不上变化，急智的Rachel也有捅娄子的时候。她迟到了，当着那位父亲的面说出了Ross的用意。
Sorry, I’m late. But I am ready, ready to talk you up.抱歉，我迟到了。但我完全准备好帮你说好话了。
Notes: pop into 急急走进，把某物迅速放到某处，访问某人，例：
A new way to solve this problem just popped into his head.他的脑海中突然出现了解决这个问题的新方法。
She popped this letter into that mailbox.她急忙把信投进信箱。
Bella, we may pop into you next week.贝拉，下个星期我们可能会去找你。
talk somebody up （美式）为……说好话，吹捧；直截了当地讲，例：
The papers talked up Joey’s latest movie.几家报纸在大肆吹捧乔伊的新电影。
Just talk up if you have different opinions.如果你有不同的见解，请大胆讲出来。
6. creep somebody out 吓到某人
Monica和Chandler这对couple 关于一个卫生纸上图案的精彩对话，全文你看到出现最多的短语是哪个？没错，就是“creep me/you out”。
Chandler: Hey, honey, you got the kind with the little girl. You said you would buy the kind with the baby.钱德勒：亲爱的，你买的这个是带小女孩图案的。你说你会买带婴儿图案的。
Monica: No, you said the baby creeps you out.莫妮卡：没有啊。你说婴儿图案的会吓着你。
Chandler: No, the little girl creeps me out.钱德勒：不对，是小女孩图案的吓到我了。
Monica: You said the baby.莫妮卡：你说的是“婴儿”。
Chandler: Why would the baby creep me out?钱德勒：婴儿为什么会吓到我？
Monica: How would the little girl creep you out?莫妮卡：那为什么小女孩会吓到你？
Notes：creep somebody out 吓到某人，例：
I don’t like Halloween because the costumes and make-up will creep me out.我不喜欢万圣节，因为那些服装和化妆总会吓到我。
7. level with 对……说实话，直言相告
Joey在和一个叫“C.H.E.E.S.E”的机器人合作拍戏，却对这个机器人的发明者不太尊重。对方的不满可能会让Joey失去这个角色。Joey必须努力挽回。
Level with me. I keep hearing rumors that I might fired.跟我说实话吧，我一直听人说我要被解雇了。
Notes：level with 对……说实话，直言相告，例：
He decided to level with the girl he liked about his own sufferings.他决定坦率地和喜欢的女生谈谈自己的苦处。
