I entered the hotel manager's office and sat down. I had just lost ￡50 and I felt very upset. 'I left the money in my room,' I said, 'and it's not there now.' The manager was sympathetic, but he could do nothing. 'Everyone's losing money these days,' he said. He started to complain about this wicked world but was interrupted by a knock at the door. A girl came in and put an envelope on his desk. It contained ￡50. 'I found this outside this gentleman's room,' she said. 'Well,' I said to the manager, 'there is still some honesty in this world!'

could be:虚拟语气用法，表示假设的可能性
it：泛指某种事情的状态
2.I felt very upset.
upset: a. 心烦的
feel+(adj.) : upset 不安(事发后); nervous : (事发前, 过程中)
3.'I left the money in my room,' I said, 'and it's not there now.'
left:把...留在...地方
the money:特指前面的50 pounds~所以加定冠词the
it:指the money（不可数n.所以此处用单数）
4.'Everyone's losing money these days,' he said.
此句中用现在进行时表示不断重复的动作，通常含埋怨的意思
these days:最近，近来
此句中money为泛指概念，所以前面无定冠词the
5.He started to complain about this wicked world but was interrupted by a knock at the door.
complain about/of：对...抱怨/发牢骚
knock:n. 敲门声
6.There is still some honesty in this world.
some:少许的
honesty:抽象名词，用单数形式

间接引语（陈述句的间接引语）
--间接引语都做宾语从句
--把直接引语改成间接引语时应注意时态的变化：
直接引语句子中，引语动词和引述动词时态可以不必一致；改成间接引语时，引语动词的时态需要发生相应变化
1、主从一致 : 主句和从句的时态一致
1）主句的动词为一般现在时, 从句为任意时态
2）主句的动词为一般过去时, 从句为相对应的过去时态
(过去时 : 一般过去时, 过去进行时, 过去完成时, 过去将来时)
一般现在时—— 一般过去时
现在进行时—— 过去进行时
现在完成时—— 过去完成时
将来完成时—— 过去将来完成时
一般过去时—— 过去完成时
2、人称变化
主要是第一和第二人称变化, 根据语境来考虑
3、只要属于宾语从句, 引导词that可以省略
