新灵魂音乐歌手肯妮·贝尔1979年2月26日生于英国，母亲是英国人，父亲是西印度裔。贝尔很早就对音乐体现出兴趣，开始她学习古典小提琴，后来得到一把电吉他，很快爱上了这种乐器。在20世纪90年代摇滚巨星的带动下，贝尔组建了她的第一支乐队，全女班。尽管这支乐队在当地口碑不错，最后他们还是解散了，贝尔进入里德大学学习英国文学。在校时，她得到了一份在爵士音乐俱乐部的工作，促使她又一次转向音乐生涯，这次她更多以写作歌曲为主。最后，她和EMI公司签约，2006年出版了以自己名字命名的首张个人专辑。
