小学生典道（山崎裕太）与佑介（反田孝幸）等同伴们就烟花升腾而起时是扁是圆展开争论，无果后，众人困惑起来，为了将困惑解决，他们决定趁夏季花火大会的机会去燃放烟花的灯塔上一探究竟。
典道和佑介同时暗恋的同学，早熟的少女奈砂（奥菜惠）因为父母离异怀起心事。一场在典道和佑介之间进行的五十米游泳比赛结束后，奈砂单约胜利者佑介陪她去看烟花，不想对方最终决定同大伙一起去灯塔。奈砂最终拉上比赛失败的典道上路，目的地却变成了火车站甚至更远的东京。
