1.经典童话介绍
Brothers Grimm （Germany-German, Grimm's Fairy Tale）
《青蛙王子-Frog Prince》、《灰姑娘-Cinderella》、《白雪公主-Snow White》、《小红帽-Little Red Riding Hood》 《糖果屋-Hansel and Gretel》
Hans Christian Andersen（Denmark-Danish）：
《海的女儿-the Little Mermaid》、《丑小鸭-the Ugly Duckling》、《卖火柴的小女孩-the Little Match Girl》、《拇指姑娘-Thumbelina》、《皇帝的新装-the Emperor's New Clothes》、《豌豆公主-the Princess and the Pea》
Frog Prince:
a young princess, a golden ball→the golden ball fell into the spring→ a frog helped→ promise→ unwilling to keep the promise→ the king insisted → slept under her pillow for 3 nights→a handsome prince→lived happily ever after.
"You have to kiss a lot of frogs before you find your handsome prince."
Cinderella:
Widower got married →two cruel and vain stepsisters→was made to do all the house work and was covered in cinders→ the prince held a ball to...→cried in despair →a fairy helped, a pair of glass slippers ...→ midnight...→lost track of time, one of the glass slippers→vows to find and marry the girl to whom it belonged→ lived happily ever after
Snow White:
Queen gave birth to a baby whose skin is as white as snow →beautiful and vain queen→Mirror, mirror on the wall / Who is the fairest of them all? → ordered a huntsman to kill snow white in the woods→lived with 7 dwarves→ the queen disguised herself as a peddler, staylace, poisoned comb, apple→the prince kissed→alive→ the queen died→lived happily ever after
the Little Mermaid
A little mermaid lived in an underwater kingdom→15 years old, swam up to the surface→ saved a prince→soul, went to sea witch for help→legs in exchange of her tongue→walked on sharp swords→had to find true love's kiss → fell in love→ misunderstanding, prince and princess married→killed → turned to foam
the Little Match Girl
A cold New Year's Eve→was freezing badly→afraid to go home→found a shelter in a nook →lighted matches→ see... → shooting star→ grandmother→dead
2.【Exercise】
QUEEN: Mirror, mirror on the wall, who's the fairest one of all?
MIRROR: What? Are you back again? You come to me twice or three times a day and ask me that same question. What is the deal here?
QUEEN: I want to know if I am the fairest woman in the kingdom.
MIRROR: Why is it you need so much reassurance? Is your self image that bad? You don't need a magic mirror—you need a therapist.
QUEEN: What I DON'T need is your advice.Now, answer my question!Say one of those witty poems you do like, "Roses are red: violets are blue.Fairest in the kingdom is the one and only you," or Roses are red: daises are white, If you think you're best, you sure are right." Ready? Hit it.
MIRROR: Okay, okay.Roses are red: violets are blue. The best-looking babe is someone else, not you.
SNOW: My, you're handsome!
PRINCE: No, I'm Charming—Handsome is my uncle.
SNOW: So what brings you to our castle?
PRINCE: I came to meet the queen. She's a widow and I came to check her out—I mean to introduce myself. I'm looking for a new wife.
SNOW: What happened to your old wife?
PRINCE: Cinderella? She had a love for mice and pumpkins that seemed ... I don't know . . a little scary.Kind of like the way you feel about birds.
SNOW: Me? Like birds? What do you mean?
PRINCE: You just told me that bird was your only friend you had in the world.
SNOW: Oh, I was just teasing. I hate birds. As a matter of fact, we eat a big turkey every Thanksgiving.
