When two animals, male and female, come together for the purpose of reproduction, they mate. This word can be used as a verb, a noun, and as an adjective.当一公一母两只动物出于繁衍目的凑到一块,它们就交配了。Mate这个单词可以用作动词、名词以及形容词。
These birds mate in the spring. (verb)这些鸟在春天交配。(动词)

The word "mate" can also refer to a person's spouse.Mate这个单词还可以指代人的配偶。
