This year, through its many outlets the BBC is examining the concept of freedom and what it is. In this programme we look at what freedom isn't. We start in 1841,when Solomon Northup, a free black man from New York State was kidnapped and sold into slavery in the south of the United States. His story laid forgotten for a couple of centuries until now.
