And amazingly, his first session was with The Beatles on their hit song, A Hard Day's Night. Ken went on to work with stars like David Bowie, Elton John and Pink Floyd. The BBC's John Wilson asked him how he landed that first job.
I knew what I wanted to do round about 12 and a half. There was a TV series called Here Come the Girls. Well, I was mad on a young singer called Carol Deene, and she was on one day, and you saw her singing into this mic. They panned up from where she was singing up to this huge window overlooking the studio. And I saw some guy sitting there. I wanted, I've gotta be him. It turns out that that was No 2 studio with EMI.
So you went to EMI before it was known as Abbey Road Studios, as EMI Studios. And you started, you worked your way through the ranks. That's the way it was done.
Absolutely.
So you started out, what is it, as a tape boy or something?
In the tape library, yeah. Just so that you learnt how the studio ran, and the difference between a cutting room and an editing room. And the first session I ever worked on as a second engineer was The Beatles, with Side 2 of A Hard Day's Night, the non-film stuff.当时年仅16岁的肯·斯考特作为一名实习录音师在位于伦敦阿比路上的知名录音工作室EMI（百代唱片）开始了他的工作。而且令人惊讶的是，他的首份录音工作就是为甲克虫乐队录制那首红极一时的歌—— 《A Hard Day's Night》。后来肯继续与多位明星合作，像大卫·鲍威、艾尔顿·约翰、平克·弗洛伊德等。BBC的约翰·威尔逊问到过他是如何拥有这第一份工作的。
