Improved technology is pushing robots into almost every aspect of our society and economy. The Curve Report, an American-based survey of trends and insights, found that advocates of robotics argued it could create more than 3 million new jobs globally by 2020. But others argue robots will simply replace jobs done by humans. So our question this week is: Can robots happily coexist with people? I went along to an exhibition called Robots Safari in one of the cavernous rooms at the Science Museum in London, which is showcasing robotics inspired by the natural world. And I went to see how far along the road we are, technologically speaking.
And we're standing in front of your creation, one of the projects you've been working on, which is a small robot, yellow. It looks like a small spaceship, no more than half metre in length and it has green flippers attached to it, four green flippers attached to it.
This is a robot called U-CAT. It's underwater robot developed for underwater archaeologists. It will go autonomously inside shipwrecks, take video footage inside the shipwreck, and then come back to the surface for the archaeologists to get the video data and analyse it.本周是欧洲机器人技术周，整个大陆将会围绕此话题举办丰富的展览和宣讲活动。技术进步也将机器人发展推进到我们经济社会的方方面面。美国一家专注于未来发展趋势和前景的调查——曲线报告，披露机器人技术的支持者们称之可以在2020年前在全球创造超过300万的就业。但其他人则认为，机器人仅仅会代替人类做一些工作。所以我们本周的话题就是：机器人能否和人类幸福共处？我在伦敦科技馆的一间洞穴形状的房间内参观了一场叫做机器人之旅的展览，它给大家展示的是自然界激发的机器人技术。我去了解了一些从技术层面看，我们还有多远的路要走。
我们就站在你所创造的的产品面前，这是你一直研究的一个项目，是一个黄色的小型机器人。它看上去就像一个小的宇宙飞船，还不到半米长，绿色的脚蹼附着在上面，一共有4个。
这个机器人叫做U-CAT，是为水下考古学家设计研发的水下工作机器人。它会自动进入海难船只里，在残骸中拍摄录像短片，然后回到海面，方便考古学家们获取并进一步分析影像资料。
