http://t1.g.hjfile.cn/listen/201310/20131013082920498185.mp3Well, later on Wednesday President Obama is expected to appoint Janet Yellen to become the first woman to head up America's central bank, the Federal Reserve. She'll be taking over from Ben Bernanke at the end of January. Of course Ms Yellen won't be completely new to the job. She's currently the Federal Reserve's deputy governor. She'll take over an economy, though, still suffering from a 7.3% unemployment rate, more than four years after the end of a deep recession. And her appointment comes as some of America's biggest creditors and global markets worry about a political deadlock in Washington over US public finances. Japan's finance minister and China, two of the biggest foreign creditors to the United States have both made clear their concern that the US government shutdown and the standoff over the US debt ceiling could wreak havoc on their trillions of dollars of investments in US government bonds. So what can we expect from Janet Yellen when she takes over at the end of January? Well, with us in the studio is Angel Gurria, secretary general of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. Good to have you here Mr Gurria.
Thank you.
And I gather you know Janet Yellen. What sort of leader will she make? What can we expect?
I think it's a great choice. It's a very good choice. But as you mentioned, she is an insider. She has been there and done that. And I can tell you the most cogent, coherent, clearest and in a way, you know, put our minds at rest in last July in Moscow during the G20 Finance Ministers Meeting. She made just great, whole, understandable message about the possibility of tapering, how they would remove this stimulus gradually over time, etc, under which conditions. It was the clearest message I've ever heard about this issue.
