Within the first part of this month, two such projects are achieving simultaneous release. The movie "Thanks for Sharing" explores the premise which is questioned by some. Is it possible to become addicted to sex in the way that others become dependent, on alcohol, or narcotics? The film is based around attendees at a Sexaholics Anonymous group. Huclune Adam played by Mark Ruffalo, who's troubled with the fact that while drunks are encouraged to stop drinking forever, recovering sex addicts are allowed to have relationships. He meets Phoebe, played by Gwyneth Paltrow.
A scene from the "Thanks for Sharing", a useful companion piece for which is offered by "Masters of Sex", a 12-part American drama started on Channel 4 next week. It's set in the 1950s when long before sex addiction was recognised as an illness. There's almost no serious medical inquiry into sexual function and dysfunction, until Dr William Masters, a gynaecologist in St. Louis, tries to begin a survey into erotic response, but meets opposition, at his hospital.
Michael Sheen was the doctor who would join with nightclub singer, Virginia Johnson, to create the Masters and Johnson's sex survey.
