In the jungle there's competition for everything, even a small water filled pitcher plant. Such specialists create the jungle's remarkable diversity, but finding enough food to survive is so challenging that most animals living here tend to be small though there are exceptions.
This is the Congo in Africa. It's a vast wilderness and the least explored of all jungles. From up here the forest looks similar to the ones that grow in the Amazon or Southeast Asia. But down below there are some unexpected sights. Crisscrossing this forest, are countless miles of highways and they were made by something big. Forest elephants roam great distances in their search for food. But to survive, they must emerge from the gloom of the forest. And clearings like this one are a magnet for elephants from far and wide.可以说猪笼草是能满足红花蛛一切需要的一站式商店，但是这个商店并不是它独自占有的。在丛林里，任何东西都成为争夺对象——包括盛着水的一小棵猪笼草。这些特化物种产生了令人惊叹的丛林生物的多样性。但是找到生存所需要的充足食物非常困难，所以这里的动物大都体型比较小——当然也有例外。
这是非洲的刚果，辽阔的莽原世界。在所有丛林中，人们对这里的考察最少。从树冠层看，这里的森林与亚马孙或东南亚的雨林相似，但是在森林的下层你会发现意想不到的景观。数公里长的公路在树林里纵横交错——开辟这些公路的是一些大型动物。非洲林象为寻求食物要走很远的路程。为了生存，它们必须钻出幽暗的森林。像这样的林间开阔地吸引了四面八方的大象。
