But Jane Austen fans are celebrating the fact that a golden turquoise ring once owned by the author may be allowed to stay in the UK. An American singer Kelly Clarkson bought the ring at auction last year for £150,000, but a temporary export ban imposed by the government has given the Jane Austen House Museum a chance to try to buy the ring themselves. £100,000 given today by an anonymous donor will help them on the way. Former curator of the museum Louise West told we more about the ring.
"Well it's a very simple gold and turquoise ring, and it is a dress ring really, just a very simple round stone, a bit like when I wearing actually, and I don't think you'd notice it particularly. I don't think it'd be worth an awful lot of money if you try to sell it as it is. But obviously with the association, it's worth a lot of money."
And we know it was definitely Jane Austen's ring.
"The provenance is as good as it can be, you know nothing is ever sadly absolutely watertight. But I must admit I had goose pimples when I saw the provenance and saw the pieces of paper that were attached to it. “唔，它是一枚很简单的黄金绿松石戒指，其实是礼服戒指啦。戴上它时，我觉得它只是一块圆石头。我觉得你肯定无法对它另眼相看。单就价值而言，我认为它值不了那么多钱。但是显然因为简曾经佩戴过，它才如此价格不菲。”
我们都知道，它肯定是简的戒指没错。
“戒指的来历当然清楚并且无懈可击。但我必须要承认，在看到戒指上说明来历的小纸条时，我还是起了鸡皮疙瘩。因为那时我觉得这真是太太太棒了。”
