"In 1942, Ernst Feldsberg of the Jewish Community of Vienna decided to put all his effort into hiding tombstones from the Nazis, and it took more than 70 years to rediscover them."

"It was amazing that he could find people to do this, among, in the middle of bomb raids and massive persecution."
Archaeologists here have recently uncovered 20 early Baroque gravestones. In the 1940s, a Jewish official Ernst Feldsberg had them buried in the topsoil to save them from Nazi destruction and to preserve a physical record of Jewish presence in Vienna.
