I certainly think this is the greatest resurrection picture. I have ever encountered. I think one of the great qualities of this painting is that it brings you very close to the resurrection. There's nothing distant about this event. He's a character that has substance to him. Look at the wound in his torso, it's still bleeding, this very fresh scarlet blood, still making us realise what it must have been like to be up there on that cross and to die slowly by degrees.
