First, full-scale drawings were used to transfer sections of the image. Then the outline was sketched in red ink or chalk. And finally, the painting could start. A visitor, one Matteo Bandello wrote an extraordinary eyewitness account of the Last Supper's creation.
Leonardo sometimes stayed there from dawn to sundown never putting down his brush, forgetting to eat and drink, painting without pause. He would also sometimes, remain up to four days without touching his brush standing in front of the work, arms folded, examining and criticising the figures to himself. I also saw him, driven by some sudden urge, clamber up unto the scaffolding, pick up the brush, put in one or two strokes, and then go away again.1495年,“最后的晚餐”草稿终于可以被移到墙上了,他首先用全尺寸的草稿把圆形转印到墙上,再用红墨水或粉笔勾边,最后绘画作业终于可以展开。
