I have indeed in my, in my mint choc chip jacket, for those at home.
It's a jacket to remember, Charles, I have to say. Your book is one of my very very favourite things in this year's festival. I mean it is an amazingly accomplished book, the sweeping global history of the year 1913. And Charles, I suppose this starting point is most of the books that cover 1913 noirs. It's sort of the dark clouds gathering for the Great War. This is very much not the starting point of your book.
Well, absolutely I mean I want to talk about 1913, the year before the Great War, in terms of its dynamism and in terms of its modernity. I mean I think a lot of people think of the years before the war in terms of sepia tone, black and white, this sort of Downton Abbey, view of the world, and I really wanted to give back, if you like the colour, to 1913. There was an awful lot going on, one of the words which I've learned this week which I very much enjoyed is soundscape, which I'd not heard before. And if you think about the soundscape of 1913, you know, automobiles, aeroplanes whizzing overhead, trains, etc. This soundscape is one which is quite familiar to us. And that's even before you've got to the music. So this is a very modern and dynamic world and that's what I wanted to get across.
