Obviously, there are some incredibly closely-observed details in the armour and so on, but they are contradicted by other elements such as the crests that they are wearing on their helmets, which belonged to tournaments.
The details of the armour themselves are fantastic, but you have to know what you're looking at. Horses at the time were commonly armoured, as were their riders, but Uccello didn't want to spoil the look of his beautiful horses and so all the principal figures are riding horses with no armour on them at all.
But Uccello did not shy away from depicting the realities of war. Probably consulting combat manuals and eye-witnesses, he created detail both brutal and precise.
