But somehow it seems particularly poignant when the loss happens to a dancer. Just over three weeks ago, ballroom dancing instructor Adrianne Haslet-Davis was watching the Boston Marathon with her husband Capt. Adam Davis who just returned from serving with the American Army in Afghanistan. Two bombs exploded, killing three people and injuring more than 170. Adrianne's left leg had to be amputated four inches below the knee, and Adam suffered serious injuries. She's just returned home from hospital, but getting around now involves using a wheelchair. We brought her together with a British woman who lost her leg 20 years ago, but has since made a successful career as a professional dancer. Adrianne began by describing the day of the Boston Marathon.
"That morning my husband and I had woken up. It was a Monday but as most people know, on a marathon Monday it feels like a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. We had the day off and took our time in the morning, cooked a very big breakfast and were just enjoying each other's company. We were playing with our cats and relaxing, and..."
"Am I right thinking your husband's not long come back from Afghanistan?"
"That is true. He had just come back about two and a half weeks prior to that. So we were just even getting used to being in the same house again together. So we were celebrating that and we even had a couple of drinks before leaving the house."
