So just what is the meaning of the Primavera? A pageant of sexual permissiveness, an artistic mystery tour, or perhaps just a botany lesson? This is the tale ofone of the most hotly-debated works in the history of art.
The Primavera was painted in the city of Florence in the 1480s, and it has never travelled more than a few miles from home. Today, crowds flock to see it at the city's Uffizi Gallery, where it's one of the star attractions. As they enter a room devoted to the paintings of Sandro Botticelli, visitors first meet his more explicit Birth of Venus. But it is the larger, darker Primavera that commands the space. Its sheer scale makes an immediate impact. Over ten feet wide, and painted on three-inch thick wooden panels, this is not a painting to be taken lightly in any sense. "Primavera" is Italian for Spring, but that title doesn't begin to explain the picture's mysteries. Nine figures are portrayed, only slightly smaller than lifesize, and all drawn from Classical mythology.“春”其超凡脱俗的美启发了大自然和人类,“春”的意义究竟为何?
