Last August, NASA landed a robotic explorer in a vast crater, close to the equator of Mars. Its first images were familiar: freeze-dried, brown, rocky desert. But a few weeks ago, that machine, Curiosity told us that aeons ago life might have been possible there. Water, the one scientists described as good enough to drink, poured or ran across the landscape. By studying the terrains of Mars and the rocks from which they are built, we hope to solve the great biological question of Mars. But this programme is not about the search for life on Mars. Instead, it's a guided tour of the myriad landscapes upon which it would depend - terrains of alien beauty and endless fascination, and some like nothing on Earth.您现在正在收听BBC的Discovery栏目。我是凯文·冯博士,在随后两周中,我们将来一次盛大的火星之旅。
