He and his eight-member crew arrived the night before. Chefs from a local restaurant prepared the dinner called Outstanding in the Field. It's what Denevan calls a culinary adventure. He came up with the idea about a decade ago.
"The mission of Outstanding in the Field is to bring people closer to where food comes from and hear the stories directly from the farmer, walk around and get to know places like this, which are important, I think."
Denevan is a former chef and his brother is a farmer. The idea of a farm-side dinner made sense to him, but not necessarily to others.
"But I wanted to make the idea work, so I decided to cross the country. I went all the way across the United States and set the table in farms, in ranches and on beaches, and all the places where food comes from."
Guests arrive with their own plates. After a brief welcome, the farmer leads them on a tour.
"These are free range chickens. We want them to eat as much pasture as possible 'cause that's the magic."在弗吉尼亚州乡村地区的蒺藜农庄，吉姆·德内文正在为他的一百多位客人摆放餐桌。

德内文还说：“我想要真正实践这个理念，于是我决定游历我们整个国家。我走遍了美国，在农场，大牧场，海滩边以及其他所有出产食物的地方，我都摆好餐桌，邀请人们来参与这场美食的盛宴。”
食客们带着自备的餐盘纷纷而至。简短的邀请过后，农夫们便引着他们开始四处观光。
一位农夫说：“这些都是放养鸡。我们希望它们吃得越多越好，因为这将会带来意想不到的神奇效果。”
