The economy has slowed for a seven-quarter in a row. Although with growth at 7.4%, it's still very impressive by Western standards. The new leaders will have to ensure the economy keeps growing. The growth so far has come at a heavy cost to China's environment, and it's a cost many people are no longer prepared to tolerate, as our correspondent Damian Grammaticas reports.
They call it denim town. On every street and every alley in Xintang, they're making jeans. Groups of men and women sit on the pavements, in workshops and shop fronts, stitching piles of trousers. There're huge factories too, where they iron and sew, wash and scrub. If you wear a pair of jeans, there's a one-in-three chance it was made here in this town in southern China.
