芭芭拉．库尼1971年生于美国纽约，在东部沿海地区长大。她从1940年出版第一本图画书开始，到现在将近六十年不间断的创作生涯中，已有一百多部作品，获得许多图画书奖。但她表示，她最好的作品在得奖之后才诞生，因为她和她的创作技巧都比以前成熟多了。从1982年创作《花婆婆》开始，在许多人想要退休的年纪，她兴致蓬勃地继续创作出令自己满意的成绩。 她的作品的特色之一，在于它们总是反映一种强烈的“地方感”。读者可以观察到多细腻的场景描绘，对一景一幕印象深刻。她并以严格控制的色彩和布局，经营出和谐冷静的感觉，有超越时空的意境；同时具有强烈特殊的风味，忠实表现故事的戏剧性。她的故事和图画里，有对微小的生命的关爱，使人“从谦卑的小花或小动物的脸上，看到美。”Hints：

"'Lupines,' said Miss Rumphius with satisfaction. 'I have always loved lupines the best. I wish I could plant more seeds this summer so that I could have still more flowers next year.' But she was not able to."
A hard winter came, then spring. Miss Rumphius was feeling better. She could take walks again. One day she came to a hill where she had not been in a long time. "'I don't believe my eyes,' she cried when she got to the top. For there on the other side of the hill was a large patch of blue and purple and rose-colored lupines!"第二年春天，爱丽斯的后背又痛了起来。大部分时间里，她不得不躺在床上。透过卧室的窗，她能看到去年夏天种下的羽扇豆，已经高高的开出蓝色、紫色和玫瑰色的花。“羽扇豆，”爱丽斯满意的说道，“我最喜欢羽扇豆了。真希望今年夏天我能种下更多的种子，那我明年就能有更多的花了。”可她却没能如愿。冬去春来，爱丽斯终于感觉好些了，她又能下床走走了。一天，她走到了许久不来的山上，当走到山顶的时候，“真不敢相信我的眼睛！”她惊叫起来。因为在山的那边盛开着一大片蓝色、紫色和玫瑰色的羽扇豆花。
