As long as I have a question to answer, I'm happy. And more so now that I see that I have impact in what I'm doing, and not just answering things because I'm a pure scientist.
Female scientists are a rare breed in Tanzania as they are in many countries all over the world. But many of them here are pioneers. And their research is helping to solve their country's problems. I'm Penny Dale and over the next hour here on the BBC World Service, I explore the work of these sisters in science, their fascinations and their inspirations, and the challenges they face in a country where half the people live below the poverty line and where government spending on science is minuscule.
Hi. My name is Flora Ismail Tibazarwa. I work at the University of Dar es Salaam. I'm a botanist and I've been working here since 1998.
