Spain now are trying to continue their cycle of success, having won this competition four years ago and the 2010 World Cup. They meet Italy in the final and look you ahead from the Ukrainian capital is the BBC's chief football correspondent Mike Ingham.
"When Italy and Spain met in their opening match three weeks ago today, not too many would have predicted it would be the eventual final. You could see Spain as holders getting there again, but Italy, in disarray domestically, wouldn't have been fancy to head off Germany and Holland. Unlike England though, they know how to get the job done in tournaments, even when they were minutes from going out in the final group games. Spain, by their own high standards haven't hit many highs. Coach Del Bosque seems to know his best ten but not best 11, and yet they are on the verge of making history - no country has won three major championships in a row."
Well, the Spanish midfielder Cesc Fàbregas is calm about facing Italy again after that 1-1 draw in the group stages. He watched their semi-final win over Germany.
"Whoever had to be it had to be and in this case it's Italy. Italy played a brilliant first half, and then the Germans, they tried their best to come back into the game, but as I said, they are both really good teams.
