But Mr Obama also assured Kabul NATO is committed to a long-term strategic relationship beyond that date. Caroline Wyatt reports.
As the summit ended, NATO leaders promised they were not abandoning Afghanistan but rather setting out a road map for the years ahead even as their combat troops prepared to leave. President Obama said that the war would be ended responsibly, but the British Prime Minister David Cameron insisted that Afghan forces would be capable of taking on what he called any residual insurgency. He said the NATO mission would now turn to training, advising and assisting the Afghan security forces with Afghans in the lead from the middle of next year. But whether Afghan forces really are ready will be tested in next summer's fighting season as NATO takes a backseat.在芝加哥召开的北约峰会结束之际，奥巴马总统说，北约成员国达成共识，预计将在明年将阿富汗作战指挥权移交给阿富汗军队。但是奥巴马先生也向喀布尔保证，北约将会在该日期之后继续致力于与阿富汗的长期战略合作。卡洛琳·怀亚特报道。
