Witnesses have told of gunfire and bombing through the night in the western neighbourhood of al-Mezze, one of the most heavily-guarded areas of the capital and home to a number of security installations. Amer Al-Sadiq is a volunteer with the opposition faction, the Syrian Revolution Coordinators Union.
"I was talking to one of my contacts in Mezze, and he was telling me that they heard within, at the period of five minutes only, four bombings, and then some clashes, some heavy fire exchange nearby. They believed the sounds came from the political security branch. Nobody's aware yet of the nature of these bombings and the fire shots and I couldn't confronting yet again through another person. I'm gonna try to head there early in the morning.
