A kind of "why did the chicken cross the road" theme. Their short animation is up against four others at the Kodak Theatre this weekend. As they prepared for the ceremony, I spoke to them in Los Angeles. The film's inspiration came from a Paul Auster edited collection of stories "True Tales of American Life":
"There's a very, very short paragraph in there about a woman who sees a chicken walk down a street and then go up some steps and knock on a door and then is let in. And you never know who had let this chicken in and you never know why this chicken wants to go for a walk or how they've trained this chicken to go for a walk and knock on the door. So there was all these kind of questions that were unanswered and we thought 'well this is interesting, I think we might explore it'. It felt like an urban myth and urban myths always get exaggerated in their retelling and we thought we could explore the subtle differences and at that point we didn't see it as a story that spanned over 100 years. It wasn't really a story at all; it was more of a kind of animation experiment."
