恐怖电影利器：想象力

"I thought it was a real potential to make a film that was genuinely scary but in an old-fashioned sense. Using very modern tools but the way the film works, and the way we always hoped it would work was that it worked more by indirection, more by working on the imagination. You know what you can imagine has always been scarier than what you can actually see.And so it was very interesting talking about it, because there's a lot of films out now that are very gory and in some way is very nasty. But nasty isn't necessarily the same as scary. And what we wanted to make here was something that was scary."
"There was never any suggestion to make it in 3D?"
"There was a discussion about it being made in 3D. But when that came to me, I said if you're making in 3D, you're not making with me directing it. "
"Because you didn't think it could enhance it in any way whatsoever? "
"I didn't think it would enhance it in any way, whatsoever. I thought it's a film about. It is hopefully it works in terms of a less-is-more sensibility and held back and I just do not buy the argument that 3D is more immersive. For me it always pulls me out of a film. And I would constantly say, 'Would you have shot 'The Others' in 3D? Would you have shot the 'Innocents' in 3D?' It is, I thought it was a laughable conversation and they're about to get a different director."“电影《黑衣女人》是詹姆斯·瓦特金斯导演的第二部电影。他的第一部电影是相对比较低成本的现代恐怖片《伊甸湖》。所以我采访詹姆斯·瓦特金斯是如何安排他的鬼故事的。”
“我想现在会是一个潜力把电影做成比较惊悚，但却是在旧的场景里边。使用非常先进的工具，但是电影制作的方式，我们希望电影的制作方式，更多的是采用间接手段来表现和给观众更多的想象空间。你知道，你想象的会比你真实看到的更加恐怖。所以谈论这个话题是非常有趣的，因为现在很多电影都是血腥的，有些会令人非常恶心。但是恶心不是必然和恐怖一样的。我们的电影更多的是想表达恐怖、惊悚。”
“没有什么建议说把《黑衣女人》这电影制作为3D电影吗？”
“我们是有讨论过说要制作成为3D电影，但是当谈论到制作3D电影的时候，我说如果你们要把这部电影制作为3D电影，那么我不会立刻去做这部电影的导演。”
“因为你不觉得3D电影会在一定程度上增加这部电影的价值？”
此导演认为3D特效不会增强电影的艺术效果，他希望这部电影达到“简单就是美”的境界，不要过于繁复，而且他不认为3D效果就那么地引人入胜。对他来说，3D总会分散他的注意，他会反问“你会把‘小岛惊魂’、‘无罪的人’拍成3D的吗？” 虽然这是当笑话说的，（但要真是这样）剧组就得换导演了，（他做不来）
