I'm Tim Whewell in the Syrian capital for Assignment on the BBC World Service, more than ten months into an uprising that's seen the deaths of nearly 6,000 people, mostly anti-government protesters, but also increasingly, members of the security forces too. I'm meeting one young opposition activist who daren't give her name.
"Now I want to ask you - because I know you're involved in the uprising - how is it organised?"
"Okay. After ten months of the revolution, we built a network, underground network where everybody is somehow connected to a different group. Most of the people that we worked together, they've been arrested. Most of them, they were tortured, all the time. It's like very risky in every step you do. You never know when you might arrested. You never know when your friend might arrested. You never know. If one of the group get arrested, there is a risk of the rest of the group because under torture, they might say names."
"And that's happened to many of your friends?"

“好的。自革命后十个月，我们建立了一个网络，一个地下网络，其中每个人都以某种方式和一个不同的小组相连。曾和我们共同干革命的人大多已经被逮捕，他们大都收到酷刑折磨，一直如此。就好像，就好像你每走一步都如履薄冰。你永远不知道什么时候会被捕，你也永远不知道你的朋友什么时候会被捕。你永远都不知道。一旦一个小组里有一个成员被捕，那么其他人也都被卷入危险中，因为被捕的人经不住酷刑，可能会供出其他人的名字。”
“你的许多朋友都有这样的遭遇吧？”
“是的，我的许多朋友都是。”
