The blasts targeted a military intelligence building and a security force base in the city. The area had been relatively quiet since the uprising against President Bashar al-Assad's government, erupted in March. Syrian state television is blaming terrorists for the attacks. In the city of Homs meanwhile, Syrian rights activists are saying government tanks are massing outside opposition neighborhoods.
Authorities in Burma have detained a prominent dissident monk less than a month after he was released from jail. Daniel Schearf takes a look.
"Witnesses say several Burmese officials took U Gambiya from a monastery in Rangoon before dawn Friday. The religious affairs and special branch police gave little information about the apprehension, saying only that the 31-year-old monk was wanted for questioning. They did not say where they were taking him. Since his release in January, U Gambiya has spoken out against the military-backed civilian government and expressed doubts that it is becoming a real democracy. 目击者声称，周五凌晨，几名缅甸官员将甘比拉带出仰光寺院。宗教管理局和警务专局对此次逮捕均无信息透露，只称带走该名31岁的僧人进行问话，也没有表明将其带往何处。甘比拉1月获释后，声称反对军方支持下的平民政府，并质疑该政府是否真正民主。报道还称，甘比拉还一直致力于重新开办2007年“袈裟革命”后被当局关闭的修道院。
