Mr. Obama used this weekly media address to say he wants to make it easier for people to spend money in America.
"Every year tens of millions of tourists come from all over the world to visit America. They stay in our hotels, eat at our restaurants, and see all the sights America has to offer. That's good for local businesses. That's good for local economies. And the more folks who visit America, the more Americans we get back to work."
In the Republican response Texas Congressman Jeb Hensarling criticized Mr. Obama's track record on creating jobs. "Regardless of the president's good intentions, his policies have failed the American people. His policies haven't just failed to make the economy better. They have actually made it worse."
Congressman Hensarling also lashed out Mr. Obama for passing on the Keystone oil pipeline project, saying it would have created 20,000 new jobs.
