It urges Israel to stop building settlements immediately and withdraw all settlers from the occupied territories. The report by three UN human rights experts says that the settlements are systematically driving Palestinians off the land and subjecting them to discrimination and intimidation on a daily basis. Israel called the report and the UN Human Rights Council biased. Maddy Savage spoke to the BBC's Imogen Foulkes who's in Geneva where the report was released and she asked for more details.
"Well, this is a fairly short report, 22 pages, short to the point rather blunt. It catalogues a list of alleged violations caused by the Israeli settlements. It talks about discrimination, dispossession, destruction of homes, of property, of crops, denial of access to fundamentals like water, the kind of parcelling out of little bits of lands, dividing up what was once, you know, a unified Palestinian territory. And most serious of all, although it sounds a bit dry, is reference to a violation of the Fourth Geneva Convention.
