It begins in the first 20 minutes, with one of the most brutal murders that's ever been imagined for American screen. Lew Wasserman felt that Kaleidoscope-Frenzy would do irreparable harm to the Hitchcock franchise, that Hitchcock, the director, and the marketable entity would basically come to an end if he made this film. This is despite the fact that Hitchcock went to great lengths to convince both Lew Wasserman and the board of MCA to do the film. They basically told him no.And for Hitchcock he had not been told "no" probably for nearly 20 years. Probably the last "no" he heard was in 1946 or something from David O. Selznick. So to be told "no" at a studio where he was one of the preeminent directors, was, it must have been a very difficult, almost shadowing experience.
