The London Olympics was deemed a huge success. But the year will also be remembered for some darker episodes. Alex Capstick has been sifting through the villains of the past 12 months.

The cancer survivor who conquered the world of cycling, one of sport's most uplifting stories, but Lance Armstrong's career was dogged by persistent rumours that he was a drug cheat. And this year, his iconic status was flattened.
"The 1000-page report by the US Anti-Doping Agency has called Lance Armstrong a serial cheat and says the US Postal team ran the most professional and successful doping programme that cycling has ever seen."
Has there ever been a greater fall from grace? Although Lance Armstrong still refuses to admit his guilt. Other high-profile reputations which have suffered in 2012 include the English footballer John Terry.
