But today, it's publishing a report which says it deeply regrets using forced prison labour during the 1960s and 70s. Ikea commissioned the investigation after allegations were made by a former prisoner of East Germany's secret security service, the Stasi. Steve Evans sent this report from Berlin.
I'm in the Stasi prison just on the outskirts of Berlin. 102 cells here and they're pretty bleak. There's a cell here where light is kept out and where sound is kept out, thick rubble walls designed to break people's minds. 102 cells but actually some of those cells had more than one person. The allegation against Ikea is that it had a contract with the government of the DDR to make furniture. And that contract was fulfilled by prisoners, political prisoners from places like this.
