Figures from the Ministry of Commerce show in September, the FDI into China dropped 6.8 percent year on year to 8.43 billion U.S. dollars. More than 2,000 foreign-invested companies were established in China in September, a 6.4 percent decrease year on year.
From January to September, more than 18 thousand such companies were set up in China, down 11.7 percent from last year. The FDI during that period was 83.42 billion US dollars, representing a decrease of 3.8 percent over the same period last year.
The Ministry’s spokesman says although the overall FDI is declining, there are still a few bright spots.
Shen Danyang, Spokesman of Chinese Ministry of Commerce, said, "China’s foreign direct investment has entered a period of adjustment. The overall scale has dropped slightly, but the structure and the quality are being optimized. For example, the service industry has registered positive growth. And the central part of China has seen FDI increasing at a double digit rate. "
