It's my third bath of the day and I'm surrounded by naked women in a hot spring. I'm Mariko Oi and for this BBC World Service Assignment programme, I'm in Japan. This hot spring hotel in the west of the country is the oldest in the world. It was founded in 718 when Europe was still in the Dark Ages. The owner is called Zengoro Hoshi. The previous owner, his father, was also Zengoro Hoshi. The owner before that, his grandfather was, you've guessed it, Zengoro Hoshi. In fact the hotel has been in the family for 46 generations, but they've only managed to keep it as a family business through a unique Japanese practice, which I'm here to find out about - family adoption of grown men.
"Welcome to our hotel. Nice to meet you. I'm the Zengoro Hoshi 46th generation."
When guests arrive at the hotel. there's a tea ceremony overlooking a garden with mossy stones and little ponds with giant bright orange koi fish.
"This hot spring was discovered by a monk who was training in the mountain nearby. His pupil opened an inn. The pupil's our ancestor. We try and heal and restore the health of our guests. This spot has great powers. I don't know whether they are from God or Buddha. Each member of my family has a different lucky spot in the garden. Last year when I wanted to give money to the earthquake victims, I went to my lucky spot and cleared my mind."唔，真是美妙。我在一个温泉里，四周都是裸体女子，这是我今天泡的第三个澡了。我是大井真理子，这期BBC全球服务的《任务》节目，我来到了日本。这家温泉旅馆位于日本西部，是全世界最古老的了。它始建于718年，那时候欧洲还在黑暗时代。旅馆的老板叫Zengoro Hoshi，上一任老板，也就是他的父亲，也叫Zengoro Hoshi。再上一任旅馆的所有者是，你猜对了，还是Zengoro Hoshi。事实上，这家旅馆一直为这个家族所有，至今已是第46代了。不过他们是通过一种日本独有的方式来确保旅馆一定是家族产业的，这就是我来这里探寻的目的——成人家族领养。

客人们到达旅馆时都会举行一场茶道仪式，仪式场所下临一座花园，院中石块上苔痕斑驳，还点缀着几座小池塘，养着硕大的亮橙色鲤鱼。
“这处温泉是由一位在附近山中传道的僧人发现的，他的弟子开了一家小旅舍，这位弟子就是我们的祖先。我们想要为客人们治愈疾病，让他们恢复健康。这处温泉有着伟大的力量，我也不知道这力量是来自上帝还是佛祖。我们家的每个人在花园里都各自有着自己的‘幸运点’。去年当我想要为地震遇难者捐款时，我就去到自己的幸运点，理清思绪。”
