It's August, 1968 and the Soviet Union is invading Czechoslovakia. In Moscow a group of just seven intellectuals gather with banners in Red Square to show their support for the Czechs. It's a tiny demonstration, but one that would be hugely influential.
"We sat there with our slogans. Gradually about 30 or 40 people surrounded us and they had no idea who we were. Somebody said, 'Oh, it's Czechs.' And we started very quietly, without shouting, explain that we are protesters against illegal act of the Soviet Union which occupied its friendly small neighbouring country."
The protest group had been inspired by the reformist movement in Czechoslovakia, known as the Prague Spring. It was tolerated by Moscow for a few months until the patience of the Soviets ended.
"Soviet troops had to fight their way into several key points in Prague and elsewhere. And most of the resistance seems to come from crowds protesting against the sudden descent of Russian tanks and guns in the capital."今天我们回到1968年，重温那一小群知识分子们的故事，他们在苏联举行了一场前所未有的公开示威。蒂娜·纽曼报道。

这群抗议者受到了捷克斯洛伐克改良主义运动“布拉格之春”的激励。莫斯科方面对这场运动容忍了几个月，然后苏联政府的耐心就到了头。
“苏联军队必须努力奋战，为进入布拉格和及其他地方的若干关键据点开辟道路。而阻力似乎大多来自于对俄国坦克和长枪突袭首都的聚众抗议。”
